What is your current Job / Role ?

Director of Development Lucid VR & Shovsoft

What are you most famous for ?

My indie game Lunar Flight and its VR integration.

What is currently on the desk in front of you ?

I’m sitting at my kitchen table. My 3 year old son is home sick so I brought my gear home from the office so I could get some work done. The Table has nothing on it accept my PC, sorry

What was your first VR experience ?

Proton Pulse, it was a pivotal experience that made me really believe VR was where I wanted to be working.

Did you feel any sim sickness or do you ever feel any sim sickness ?

A few of the demos made me feel quite unwell. These days I know the triggers or types of experiences that will cause it and avoid them.

What’s the longest amount of time you have spent in VR in one play session ?

Over an hour playing Lunar Flight in Multiplayer. Several hours playing Euro Truck Sim.

What’s the strangest experience you have had with VR ?

The cdak scene demo when I visited Valve to try out their prototype, I was standing all the way through it, my hands were shaking at the end. Click here to view

What’s the funniest experience you have had with VR ?

Riftmax Theatre, its great fun to hang out with people on there.

What game or hardware device are you currently working on ?

ZVR Apocalypse will hit Kickstarter this week, you heard it here first… 😉

Do you have a release date in mind for your project ?

2nd or 3rd Quarter 2015

What is the biggest surprise you have had since you started to work in VR ?

How much our IPD influences the way we perceive the scale of the world around us.

If you could only choose one game from your childhood to be remade for VR what would it be  ?

Not so much from my childhood but I would love a Pilot Wings 64 remake in fact I want to make it myself if I wasn’t currently occupied with ZVR Apocalypse.

Besides games what do you think will be the most useful application for VR ?

What advice would you give to people on how to get into VR development ?

Pick a discipline you’re interested and focus like a monk, then find other monks to focus with.

What is your favorite VR related movie ?

The Lawnmower Man

If you had a crystal ball and could see 10 years into the future what developments in VR do you think will have happened?

The headset will be the size of a pair of wraparound sunglasses. It will include retinal projection,  eyetracking, small external cameras that will do realtime capture for tracking and augmented displays. Everything will be rendered with raycasting. The headset will replace the mobile phone handset.

Outside of VR what do you do to relax ?

I recently bought a house that has a huge garden that requires constant attention. Aside from that I am an obsessive old school hardcore gamer, I own just about every device type there is. Consoles, Mobile, Handhelds & PC.

Fanatec WheelWhat’s your current favorite VR experience that you have not developed your self ?

Euro Truck Sim has been the most compelling, where I felt I had to play it and setup my Fanatec wheel and pedals.

Sum up how you feel about Virtual Reality in 6 words or less ?

All Skeptics will be converted eventually.
