Senza Peso is the new stunning experience from developers Kite & Lightning which is unlike anything you have ever experienced before.

Senza Peso is a Mini Opera which takes place in the transition dividing the world of the living from the world of the dead. This VR experience follows along the lines of the CGI music video which tells the story of a Siren who escorts newly deceased souls to the afterlife.

Everything about this production screams quality from the angelic lighting effects, to the sombre cry of the cello as it plays a truly haunting backing track to the powerful vocals of singer Sasha Lazard.

One of the stand out features is how Kite & Lighting have captured live action video characters and rendered them inside this underworld. They feel completely believable and as you make your way further into the nether world you get quite startled as a large face suddenly appears and watches your every move.

Our favourite part is the transition to the lava section where you are surrounded by fire and brimstone. The detail in how smoke is rendered and how the pyroclastic flow moves looks so natural it’s a beautiful sight to behold in VR.

Senza Peso is a short experience but will leave a lasting impression. We have seen quite a few extraordinary VR examples this past year but sitting through Senza Peso has, we think, shone a light on how Virtual Reality can be used in a non-interactive way to tell a story or convey a message .

If you don’t have an Oculus Rift and you ever get a chance to experience just one demo I recommend you ask for Senza Peso as you will hopelessly get completely immersed in this strange but beautiful landscape.
