PlayStation VR Cinematic Mode

One of the more interesting features that Sony has planned for the PlayStation VR when it is released in October this year is a new cinematic mode. This added feature gives the user the chance to not only play full VR games and experiences through their headset but also the ability to play your existing PlayStation 4 games as well.

According to Sony’s press release,  “Cinematic mode includes standard PS4 games and videos as well as a variety of PS4 features including Share Play and Live from PlayStation.” Cinematic mode will also let players view 360-degree content through the PS4 Media Player such as photos and videos that have been taken to let you feel as if you were part of the scene.

What is Cinematic Mode? This is pretty much what you’d expect, the player wearing the headset can bring up a large size screen to watch and play on as if you were sitting in a cinema. Sony says that the screen inside the headset can be up 5 meters wide at a distance of 2.5 meters. No mention of any environment in which you watch the screen in was announced with the press release.PSVR

Having tried a similar mode on other devices I find this an interesting feature that much like other VR experiences have to be seen to understand. For anyone with a small TV at home, paying €399 for essentially a massive screen to watch movies and play games on, as well as all upcoming VR content is not looking to be so bad.
