YouTube today announced via twitter that it will soon support stereoscopic 3D 360-degree videos supporting more virtual reality content.

The Google-owned video sharing site posted the following tweet:

This news follows on from the recent addition of 360-degree adverts appearing on YouTube also. Bud Light were one of the first companies to take advantage of this and you can view their advert above.

YouTube’s venture into Virtual Reality comes off the growth of the technology over the last number of years and the popularity of the Google Cardboard VR headset.

With more and more 360 videos appearing on YouTube lately this move makes sense as the site is becoming a more public platform for developers and creators to show their work on a larger scale.

With YouTube now supporting all these features that will lend themselves to virtual reality content, it’s sure to aid in bringing VR even closer to mainstream exposure.
